Nats Three Bagger- September 21, 2010

First Base- Fresh off of a brutal late inning meltdown in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, the Nats played one of their worst games of the season in last night’s 8-2 loss to Houston.  One bright spot in the loss was a two run double Adam Dunn hit in the bottom of the first inning.  The two RBI gave Dunn 95 on the year, moving hm closer to posting the fourth 100 plus RBI performance in team history.  Ryan Zimmerman had a Nats’ high 110 RBI in 2006, and drove in 106 in 2009.  Dunn has had six previous 100 plus RBI seasons, including 105 last year for Washington.  Dunn’s career high is 106, set in 2007 when he played for Cincinnati.

Second Base-  Tuesday night’s starter John Lannan has allowed three or fewer earned runs in seven of his last starts and has posted a 6-2 record in that span.  In games started by Lannan this year, Washington is 13-10.  In games Lannan, Livan Hernandez and Stephen Strasburg have started, the Nats are 36-30.  In games started by Jason Marquis, J.D. Martin, Scott Olsen and Craig Stammen, Washington is only 15-39.

Third Base-  Houston lefty J.A. Happ is 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his career against the Nats.  As a member of the Astros since moving to Houston in the Roy Oswalt trade, Happ is 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA.  If Happ is to get run support in today’s outing against fellow southpaw Lannan, it is likely to come from Carlos Lee.  In his career, Lee is 7 for 14 with two doubles, two homers and no strikeouts against Lannan.
